Maya Character Setup for Film and Television Post Production.
Maya Character Setup Examples:

I was responsible for all the character setup on the film "The Sunflower".
This mythical character is in an advanced stage of decay, which meant that layers
underneath the skin are exposed. A Wrap based Muscle System added an additional
level of realism, as the muscles and innards can be seen moving under the skin.
Scalable IK, Blend Shapes, Weighted Clusters and Jiggle deformers, don't only
add more levels of realism, but also simplifies the process of secondary animation.
Low resolution proxy geometry ensures fast feedback during animation, and in
turn drives high resolution geometry (with Maya Fur) for the final 2K rendering.
Clips can be downloaded at my Showreel
page.
Human Character Setup:
The quest to rig every character better than the character in the previous project is always a driving force. One soon discovers that clumsy MEL User interfaces, just get in the way. As you conquer the classical character rigging problems like the behavior of the Clavicle and Scapula bone, Twisting Wrist Skin Deformation caused by the Ulan and Radius bone, and Scalable IK Systems, you start experimenting with Muscle Systems and Secondary animation controls. Character Setup is an area of 3D that keeps on evolving, and new tools continually push the boundaries of what can be achieved. This is one of the reasons why I enjoy character setup so much.

Different Character Rigging Approaches from the archives:
Character setup examples from the film archives ("The Little Unicorn" and "Merlin - The Return"). In the fist versions of Maya, I mainly used Rigid Binding, Deformers and Indirect Skinning. The character setup tools have come a long way since the early days of Maya. I now prefer to use Wrap based Muscle systems to Skin all my characters instead.
